The company he keeps

I've lived in both worlds

On a pitch, being good is visible. It's ranked, recognised, and rewarded. In business, the best expert in the room can be completely invisible, and quietly lose work to people half as good but far better known.

The market doesn't reward the best expert. It rewards the best-known one.

I played for Leicester Tigers, England Sevens, England A and the Barbarians, then spent fifteen years working out how experts close that gap. I've written four business books, each one generating a six-figure income, none of it from royalties, all of it from becoming the person people already knew before they picked up the phone.

Now I help coaches, consultants, advisors, service providers and experts do the same: go from the best-kept secret in their field to the obvious choice.

Trusted by the people who make champions

Being the best isn't enough. Being known is.

That's as true in elite sport as it is in business. The coaches who turn talent into world champions have put their name to my work.

“He has given you what I would call a 'success blueprint'.”
Sir Clive Woodward Coached England to the 2003 Rugby World Cup
“It will give you the 'point of difference' that we are all hoping to find.”
Peter Moores Only coach ever to win the County Championship with three different clubs
“Steve's work in the boardroom and my work on the water is so similar.”
Brendan Purcell Olympic performance director, seven GB medals at Rio 2016
“Steve taught me the lesson that changed everything: in a professional firm, being the recognised authority is what really wins, not just being good at the work. That authority is what let me sell my firm on a strong multiple.”

Richard Brewin, FCA · Sold his firm, now mentors accountancy practice owners

It takes four minutes, and about half the people who take it find out a book isn't their gap yet. If that's you, it says so. No pitch.
